ANDREW HUM

Andrew is an ARB (UK) registered Architect with a broad range of experience in cultural, education and multi-family residential projects in British Columbia and the UK. He is passionate about collaborating on projects, from the exchange of ideas to shape a shared vision to the delivery of complex and meaningful projects. He is currently working on the residential housing project for the ɬaʔamɩn Tla’Amin Nation in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

He graduated from the Architectural Association School of Architecture and holds a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Conservation from the University of British Columbia. In his previous work, he studied forests, fields, streams and soils with the UBC Biometeorology and Soil Physics Group in remote areas of British Columbia.

He is interested in buildings and their relationship with their surroundings and their sense of place and community. Particularly looking at issues of domesticity and sustainable design with considerations for low embodied carbon materials, energy performance and the adaptive reuse of existing buildings. At a technical level, he has experience working on the details and delivery of several Passive House mass timber buildings and complicated existing building repair and adaptive reuse projects.

Andrew enjoys spending time exploring the outdoors with his growing family, in the workshop crafting objects, or in the city walking his dog. He is grateful to the Musqueam /xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Squamish /Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Tsleil-Waututh /Sel̓íl̓witulh, who allow him to live and work on their unceded territories.
