Mika Ishizaki | Intern Architect

Mika Ishizaki

Mika graduated from the University of British Columbia with her Master of Architecture and holds a dual bachelor degree from the University of Victoria in Geography and History in Art.

As a first-generation Japanese Canadian who moved from Tokyo to the Pacific Northwest, Mika has a preoccupation with city planning and socially sustainable communities. When combined with her pre-architectural work experience in retail and service/hospitality, it has culminated in a deep interest in how our private commercial spaces interface with public spaces. She also loves to dissect the historical and social context in which architecture, design and art is created.

In her free time, Mika volunteers with Women in Architecture (WIA), an organization that champions women in architecture and related professions. She also loves going to art galleries, finding the best sushi in town, and painting abstract landscapes.

Having grown up on and lived her whole adult life in the Pacific Northwest, she’s grateful to the Coast Salish nations, including the Musqueam/xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, Squamish/Sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and Tsleil-Waututh/Sel̓íl̓witulh, who allow her to live and work on their unceded territories.
